How this directory is checked

Coverage audit: 15 October 2026. Added the Long COVID Patient Experience Project. Registry searches again returned 61 broad matches and 46 overlapping narrower matches. Read the coverage audit and remaining gaps.

We screened 61 records returned by a broad ClinicalTrials.gov keyword search with Canada as the location, alongside a narrower 46-record search, then checked Long COVID Web, RECLAIM and research-team pages. These searches overlap; they are not 107 unique studies. Canadian-led planned studies without listed sites were checked separately.

Completed and stopped trials, unrelated keyword matches and acute-COVID prevention studies are excluded from participation listings. Different RECLAIM arms keep their own trial IDs. Studies are not ranked by expected benefit.

“Listed as recruiting” means the registry or study-team page says so; individual places have not been confirmed; two study-team inquiries are awaiting replies. Registry recruiting records more than 12 months old appear under “Needs confirmation” unless an official study-team page explicitly lists current enrolment. Unknown registry statuses and old or undated posters without a current team update also need confirmation. Conflicting site details are kept visible. A recently checked page can still contain old information.

“Upcoming” requires an explicit not-yet-recruiting status. Estimated dates may pass without recruitment starting. No verified listings for a province or age group does not mean no research exists there. Surveys, pediatric research and unregistered studies may be missing.

On 13 October 2026 we rechecked the 13 uncertain listings. One now has an explicit study-team enrolment notice; 12 remain unresolved. Recruitment-check notes explain each decision. Counts describe listings, not necessarily distinct studies: the Western fatigue poster may be linked to PREFACER.

Questions to ask before joining
  • Is my local site recruiting, and which study arm is available?
  • What are the visits, travel, costs, compensation and time commitments?
  • How do you assess post-exertional malaise, manage symptom worsening and accommodate housebound participants?
  • Can I pause or withdraw, and how are adverse events and personal information handled?
